Who is this course for?

Are there any prerequisites for the Foundations of Christian Herbalism?

There are no prerequisites for this herbalism course. Whether you are an absolute beginner or an intermediate herbalist, then this course is perfect for you. You do not need to have any previous herbal experience to benefit from this course. The course will teach you a basic understanding of herbal classification and progress to more advanced subjects throughout the course.

How does the course work?

You will have access to new lectures each week. Once you complete a lecture, you will have lifetime access so that you can listen to it over and over again until you gain full mastery of the material. Each lecture includes printable pdfs that you can download. In addition to the audio lectures, you will complete assignments at the end of each lesson.

Will this course prepare me to work as an herbalist?

If you are interested in working as a community herbalist, this course will definately prepare you for such work. It will provide you with a strong foundation with which to begin to working with yout community. If however, you are hoping to work in a clinical setting, this course will give you the needed foundation for the work, but you will likely need further education. How many professional hours is the Foundations of Christian Herbalism course?

The Foundations of Christian Herbalism course is currently equivalent to 225 professional hours: this includes lectures, assignments, quizzes, and the projects.

The Family herbalist course is equivalent to 65 professional hours. This includes lectures, as well as experiments and projects.

What is the difference between a Clinical Herbalist and a Community Herbalist?

The difference is largely a gray area. As a community herbalist you will most often work in group settings, educating clients on the role of herbs and holitic health. Occasionally, as a community herbalists you will work with clients one-on-one. As a community herbalist, your primary goal is to increase the knowledge of holistic herbalism within your community. The goal is to educate your community to take charge of their own health.

As a clinical herbalist however, your primary work is working with clients one-on-one. As a clinical herbalist you will assess a client’s health imbalance and educate them on how to achieve and maintain optimal health. As a clinical herbalist you will need to develop highly specialized skills. You will also need knowledge that includes a deep understanding of anatomy and physiology. The Foundations of Christian Herbalism course will give you a strong foundation upon which to build you clinical career.

Will I receive certification as an herbalist upon completing the course?

No jurisdiction in the United States currently regulates the practice of herbalism. Therefore, no certification nor liscensure is required to practice herbalism. This however can change, so its important to stay aprised of the legal regulations in your state.

The American Herbalist Guild does offer voluntary certification for herbalists. The AHG maintains a minimum standard for certification. You will need to complete a set amount of educational hours. In addition to educational hours, you will need to fulfill a minimum of required hours in a clinical setting. The clinical hours can either be performed independently or under the supervision of an approved AHG mentor.

All that said, you will not receive any licensure or certification upon the completion of the Foundations of Christian Herbalism course. Instead, you will receive a certificate of completion. Becoming certified under the AHG is your personal decision. Each herbalist has to decide for him or herself whether or not to pursue certification.
